Job Description

My client, a highly regarded commercial real estate firm on Long Island, is seeking a Senior Property Accountant. This company offers a friendly, supportive culture, an attractive work/life balance, and opportunities for advancement.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions for commercial real estate, focusing on office and retail spaces
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules by working closely with property management teams to ensure accuracy. (bank reconciliations, balance sheets, income statements, cash flows etc.).
  • Monitor and maintain cash balances and reserves.
  • Perform month-end close procedures including preparation/review of account reconciliations
  • Conduct and supervise the CAM reconciliation processes and ensure that all reconciliations are completed accurately and timely
  • Prepare operating and tax expense reconciliations as required per governing documents (leases, management agreement, etc.)
  • Record journal entries to the general ledger and ensure records are kept in compliance with appropriate basis of accounting
  • Assist in budget/projection preparation process by preparing revenue and expense projections
  • Regularly discuss budget-to-actual amounts after each month-end close with management team and owners
  • Serve as the point of contact for communications with owners/property owners and outsourced tax accountants
  • Thoroughly review lease documents and amendments to reconcile base rents and escalations in the current and future years
  • Review and validate proper billing for all tenants across assigned properties
  • Coordinate and prepare lease administration; set up new leases in Yardi Voyager, prepare tenant billings, set up tenant profiles

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Approximately 2-5+ years of experience
  • Experience in public accounting is helpful but not required
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI or a similar software is helpful
