POSITION TITLE: SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVER

Starting salary range*: $18.37 - $21.21 per hour based on education and work experience (based on current Salary Schedule)

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for transporting students in a safe manner to, from, and between schools. This position may also transport students to field trips and athletic events. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Must be 21 years old. 3. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. 4. Must pass a Physical Demand Evaluation. 5. Must meet motor vehicle eligibility guidelines from Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool. 6. Colorado Department of Revenue Commercial Drivers License Class B with P2 and S endorsements required. 7. First Aid/CPR Certification required. 8. Colorado Department of Education annual testing required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform pre and post trip safety inspections of the bus in accordance with Colorado Department of Education, state, and federal regulations and Eaton School District policies and procedures.
2. Drive assigned route according to routing directions and follow schedule for student pickup and drop off times as provided.
3. Maintain appropriate student behavior in order to allow for safe vehicle operation.
4. Assist in the loading and unloading of students, especially those with special needs.
5. Clean the inside and the outside of the bus.
6. Complete all pre and post trip forms, mileage reports, field trip forms and student bus conduct notices.
7. Report all unsafe route directions or bus stop locations to the Transportation Director.
8. Attend in-service training and meetings, which may include days when school is not in session.
9. Perform such other tasks and responsibilities as may be needed for the efficient performance of the district’s transportation department.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
1. Thorough knowledge of transportation rules and regulations including adequate record keeping for CDE and Department of Transportation compliance requirements for the district.
2. Knowledge of town and county roads.
3. Knowledge of student behavior and management techniques.
4. Ability to communicate with students, parents and staff members and work as transportation team member.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will work both indoors and outdoors in public school settings and in various sized spaces. The employee must be in good physical and mental health. The employee must be able to safely pull 55 pounds and push overhead with a total of 70 pounds of force. This position will require extensive sitting. Successful applicants will be offered conditional employment subject to a post offer medical review. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work assignments are to be recommended by the Transportation Director. Salary will be established by the Board of Education with the benefits and retirement that apply to personnel according to Board of Education policy. May include evening and weekend responsibilities as well as out-of-district travel.
