DVLA issue full list of services people still need to pay for using cash or cheque.

As of November 2025, the DVLA offers nearly 50 customer services, with the vast majority payable by card online. However, seven specific applications require manual processing and must still be paid for with a cheque or postal order, not cash. 

The full list of services requiring payment by cheque or postal order is:

  • Exchanging a non-GB driving licence for a GB one.
  • Applying for a driving licence after a disqualification.
  • Requesting vehicle information for individuals.
  • Applying for a vehicle registration certificate (V5C) when the original is not available.
  • Applying for a reduced rate of vehicle tax for recipients of the standard rate of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
  • Amending vehicle excise duty details (e.g., changing the weight of a heavy goods vehicle).
  • Applying for or renewing a trade licence

Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to “DVLA, Swansea”. It is strongly advised not to send cash by post.
