RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Full-Time | On-Site | Port Saint Lucie, Fl

SUMMARY

Akel Homes, an award-winning South Florida homebuilder, is seeking an experienced Residential Construction Superintendent to oversee a specific phase of the construction process across multiple homes. This role requires a high level of technical construction knowledge and leadership to ensure all homes are built in accordance with company standards, building codes, and contractual requirements. The Construction Manager is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams while maintaining strict quality control, safety compliance, and production schedules.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Planning & Organization – Plan and organize daily activities while prioritizing workload to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner; identify critical items requiring immediate attention and maintain a strong sense of urgency in completing or supervising completion of these tasks.

• Scheduling & Coordination – Schedule and coordinate the efforts of subcontractors, suppliers, municipal employees, utility companies, purchasers, and company personnel for commercial properties, amenities, entry features, and clubhouses.

• Procurement & Execution – Procure subcontractor work by establishing start and completion dates for each phase of construction; coordinate material deliveries, building inspections, water meter installations, utility scheduling, and required walkthroughs.

• Quality Control – Ensure compliance with building codes, regulatory requirements, scopes of work, specifications, product approvals, and company standards for workmanship.

• Subcontractor Compliance – Ensure all subcontractor work is performed in accordance with Subcontractor Agreements, plans, specifications, start packages, building codes, safety procedures, quality assurance standards, and all company policies and procedures.

• Problem Resolution – Identify problem areas, make recommendations for corrective action, and take initiative to resolve issues while implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.

• Safety Compliance – Conduct all work in accordance with safety standards and guidelines; proactively identify hazards, notify subcontractors and suppliers of unsafe conditions, and take appropriate action to eliminate risks.

• Documentation Management – Maintain all required construction documents and records necessary to construct buildings in accordance with plans, specifications, and applicable building codes.

• Payment Approvals – Review and approve payments for subcontractor work based on completion and compliance with project requirements.

• Communication – Maintain proactive and consistent communication with subcontractors, suppliers, municipal employees, utility companies, purchasers, and internal company personnel.

• Site Maintenance – Ensure job site cleanliness and organization through direct supervision of laborers and subcontractors.

• Additional Duties – Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in building construction or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

• Minimum five years of experience building single-family homes, preferably in South Florida.

• Experience working in a high-volume, production-driven construction environment.

• Prior experience working directly with customers and maintaining a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

• Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize a high volume of tasks, trades, and personnel while maintaining thorough paperwork and follow-up.

• Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills when working with subcontractors, company personnel, customers, and all project stakeholders.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and construction scheduling applications with the ability to track and manage project workflows.

• Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction and delivering a positive homeowner experience.

• Demonstrates accountability and follow-through to ensure work is completed correctly, efficiently, and to company standards.

• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct, train, and motivate subcontractors and vendors to maintain compliance with company policies and standards.

• Sound decision-making skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently, anticipate problems, and mitigate risks.

• Ability to apply experience during the Design Development phase to identify critical issues, logistics, and potential construction challenges.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and construction documents accurately.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

• Reliable transportation to travel between job sites and communities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • On-site at our newest community in Port Saint Lucie, Fl.
  • Combination of construction site and office-related responsibilities.
  • Exposure to uneven terrain, active construction zones, and moving equipment.
  • Work performed in varying weather conditions including heat, humidity, and rain.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels depending on site activity.
  • Frequent interaction with subcontractors, vendors, internal teams, and homeowners.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to approximately 25 pounds; must be able to bend, reach, and perform light physical tasks as needed.
